Heat Islands

Did you know that the Heat Island Effect is a main reason for overheating in cities? The Heat Island Effect happens when buildings and roads absorb the sun’s heat during the day. Then the buildings and roads release that heat during the night even when the sun isn’t shining.  Do you ever feel hot when you are sleeping at night?  That is the Heat Island Effect!  Trees can help fight the Heat Island Effect.  They absorb energy from the sun and make shade to keep buildings and sidewalks from absorbing so much heat during the day. Join the Green Team Tree Plantings with the City of Long Beach on March 8th.  Check under the Tree Planting tab for the planting times and addresses.
